Our Story

Cats have always been part of my life. Ever since I was a child my family had cats. My very first cat, Fritz — a black cat with beautiful shiny fur, was there before I could even form full words. My first spoken word was actually his name (or at least my toddler version of it: “Itz”). Though I only have faint memories of him, I remember the day he passed. I was just three years old when my mom came home from the vet and told me, holding back tears, that Fritz was now in cat-heaven. My three year old self simply shrugged, believing that he was safe and happy in cat-heaven.

Over the years, we had many more cats, each one loved dearly. Most recently, our beautiful, fluffy calico cat, Lizzy, was a part of our family for 14 wonderful years. She was small, with adorably short legs, and had the cutest personality (just like a little princess, but sassy at times). When I moved to a different city, she was often the main reason I made the trip back home. My mom knew this and would sometimes joke, “Please greet me first before running off to the cat.” Lizzy was my whole heart, and even now writing this, months after her passing, I still fight back tears thinking about her. Losing her felt like losing a family member.

I wanted something to keep her memory alive. I kept thinking about a way to honor her, something meaningful that I could see and use every day. That’s when the idea for a very speical mug started to take shape. The design was a cute, fluffy calico cat on a beige background, with Lizzy’s name written above it. When I shared this idea with my mom, she immediately said, “Ohhh, I would definitely buy one too!” And just like that, Typelle was born.
